RipStik gets "Ripped" ~www.TheBloggingMom.com~

The whole family was in the car headed out to a nice dinner. Everyone was happy. Things were good. Unfortunately, the tone quickly changed. Poor Phillips' family, right? :-) We heard the dreaded CrUnCh beneath the wheels. My initial reaction was, "What the crap was that",  bad thought I know  but reality set in within about a half second, which led to my accusatory question directed to Gibson,  with no tone in my voice, of course  "You left your Ripstik in the driveway, didn't you?"  Followed by my husband using only the word, "SON!"

But then the tone took yet another turn. I turned around to face my 'son' and my heart sank.  He knew the answer was yes. He opened the door to the van, got out, and brought back this:
I can not tell you how many close calls we have had with this RipStik. This is just one of the many items left in the drive ready to be run over. In this case, I had actually given a reminder about ten minutes prior to the crunching sound.

Part of me felt like I had given many warnings, therefore he needed to suffer the consequences of not having a Ripstik. With the lesson learned being: PUT YOUR THINGS AWAY! The other part of me wanted to go out and buy a new one right away.

Why did I feel so terrible about this situation when he should have known better?

#1, He wasn't the one driving the car that ran the thing over hubby, not me.
#2 Gibson paid for this Ripstik with his own money.

They are not cheap I might add, costing approximately $70. Unfortunately, the teaching hard lesson learned mother had to step in and overcome my temptation to just go replace it. Afterall, he rides it all the time. So, the compromise was that we would pay for the items to try and fix the Ripstik since it had a very clean break.

Fix a Ripstick? I know, absolutely crazy idea.  LOL... Have you seen that commercial where the guy bungee jumps using Krazy Glue to hold the parts together? Well, if that worked, why wouldn't it hold a Ripstick! Seemed like it was worth a shot. Krazy Glue = $3, New Ripstik = $70  I am here to tell you... It did NOT work.  oh well. It made for good TV.

Long story short, Gibson actually has the money to buy a new one if he chooses.  He could buy 3 if he wanted to.  The kid never spends his money. I have even borrowed money from him when I was short on cash.  and yes, I pay him back  I figured if he didn't want to spend his own money  to replace it then I shouldn't feel so badly about the situation and not replacing it.

I might also add that he handled this situation with such maturity. I pointed this out to him several times.  He took full responsibility, which left me feeling very proud of him.  He is such a good kid!  a good kid with no Ripstik
A sweet big brother!

We have been enjoying your blog! Stephen is sorry that Gibson's ripstik got broken. Stephen enjoyed playing with Gibson's ripstik so much that he saved up and bought one himself.

Sorry to hear about your sons ripstik! I'm sure when he heard the crunch, he knew exactly what he forgot to pick up. Haha. If your sons interested in learning how to ride and learning how to do tricks on his ripstik, tell him to check out my site. Anyways, great blog you've got here... keep up the good work.
